Using Conflict Detector via the Diagnostic Tool
Security Services v9

Conflict Detector looks for installed programs that are known to conflict with Bell Aliant Security Services.

If Conflict Detector detects a conflicting program, it launches the uninstall utility for that program.

To run the Conflict Detector:

  1. Exit Security Services.

To exit the program, right-click the Security Services icon (picture of a vault) on the System Tray and select Exit. Windows 7 users must click the up arrow, then click on the vault.

  2. Click Yes when prompted.

  3. If Bell Aliant security Services is password protected, you must enter the password now and click OK.

If Aliant Security Services is not password protected, skip to the next step below.

If the user cannot remember the password, click here.

  4. Open the Bell Aliant Diagnostic Utility in the "Start" menu (or "Start" > "All Programs" menu.)

  5. For Windows Vista & 7 only: if "User Account Control" is enabled, you may be prompted for a password at this point. The window that appears will say: "A program needs your premission to continue...". This is an Administrative password, unique to the system. Aliant has no record of this password and can not recover it if the user is uncertain of what it is. The user will need to consult with the system adminstrator for more help if the password can not be determined.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click Conflict Detector.

  8. Wait as the Conflict Detector scans for conflicting software.

    • If conflicting software is not found: A "No security conflicting application detected" message appears. Click Close and then Cancel on the Diagnostic Utility window.

    • If conflicting software is found:

      1. Allow the conflicting program(s) to remain checked off (this means they will be removed)
      2. Click Uninstall.

      3. At this point the uninstaller program for the conflicting program is launched -- follow the prompts to uninstall the software.
      4. After the uninstaller program has run, it will likely prompt to restart the computer. Even if it does not, a reboot should be performed.
